There’s nothing wrong with having a little getaway. It can help reset your mind back to zero as you come back fresh and ready to get back to day to day life. But vacations can get real costly real fast. So I’m sure you’re pleased to know that there are ways to save money on your vacation. Here are a few of my favorite ways to save cash on a vacation.
Finding the right time
Everyone loves a summer vacation, yet that’s when the rates for flights and hotels go up. Also, choose to vacation during the week rather than on the weekend. For places like Las Vegas this could mean the difference between $100 a night and $250 a night.
Hotels
Some hotels have deals such as book three nights stay the fourth for free. They do this since most people book for just two nights. To entice you to book a third they’ll give you the fourth for free. Take advantage of the amenities offered by the hotel. This can include anything from a free breakfast, use of the gym and swimming pool access.
Kayak
I find really good deals on airfare and hotels at shopping comparison sites like Kayak. Not only that, but when you order you can bundle together your flight, hotel and car rental which will save you money compared to obtaining them separately.
Gifts
You don’t have to buy souvenirs to remember your trip. That’s what memories and pictures are for. Also, don’t fall for tourist traps. The vendors can spot you a mile away. If you think you’re buying something local, you’re not. It was made in China. It costs $1 and they’re selling it for $10.
Food
Vacations can get real expensive because of food. Since you’re not at home to cook a homemade meal you figure you need to go to restaurants every day. But that’s just not the case. Hotel rooms have fridges and microwaves. Buy or bring some food and disposable plates and eat in the room. Bring snacks along like fruits and almonds.
