The cost of gasoline to power our vehicles continues to rise. I wouldn’t be surprised if we hit $5 per gallon in the next several years. When dealing with reducing your expenses, separating your needs from your wants is a good start. Gas always falls into the category of a need. But that doesn’t mean that you can’t spend less on fuel. While we cannot do anything to alter the price of gas,we can however combat the effects of it. Here’s a few ways you can do that.
Work at home
This one sounds easier said than done. You should inquire with your boss as to whether you can work remotely – even for just one day per week. Your boss might like the idea of that too since you won’t be using the company computer, internet and other resources. What if your boss needs to talk to you? There’s Skype. What about sharing/editing files? There’s DropBox.
Don’t drive
The easiest way to save money on gas is just to drive less. If you must commute, take the train or the bus. Public transportation is much cheaper than fueling up. You can also ride a bicycle if you’re not going too far.
Carpool
Get together with a few people from work or school and drive together. You’ll be able to use the carpool lane so you can get to work quicker. You will also help the environment by having less cars on the road. But most importantly you can divide up the cost of gas and cut your gas bills in half.
Buy a new car
If you buy a fuel efficient vehicle, you won’t need to fill up as often. While this is initially a larger expense, you will save money on gas throughout the entire life of the car. This is something to look into if you’re already considering getting a new car.
